2026.10.06

On Monday, October 5, a public lecture was held to celebrate the publication of Professor Christopher T. Keaveney’s (current Director of the Center) latest book, Modern Japanese Writers and Kanshi: Exophonic Literary Performance and the Shifting Sinosphere.

The lecture explored the practice of composing kanshi (traditional Sinitic poetry) among modern Japanese writers spanning from Natsume Sōseki to Li Kotomi.
The event welcomed current students, alumni, and members of the public, offering attendees a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of kanshi and its role in Japanese literary history.
