Admission Requirements

Applicants must satisfy all of qualifications listed in 1 to 3 below.
1. Applicants must fall under one of the subitems (a) to (c) below:
 (a) Graduated, or expecting to graduate by March 2024, from a senior high school (including the upper curriculum of a secondary education school; same applies below);
 (b) Completed, or expecting to complete by March 2024, twelve years of school education under a regular curriculum; or
 (c) Recognized, or expecting to be eligible for recognition by March 31, 2024, as having academic ability equal to or above that of a senior high school graduate, pursuant to Article 150 of the Ordinance for Enforcement of the School Education Act.

2. Applicants must have strong motivation to study in the Global Liberal Arts Program.

3. Applicants must fall under one of the subitems (a) to (g) below:
For details on available English qualifications / proficiency examinations, please be sure to refer to the entrance examination guidelines on Rikkyo University’s website before applying.
 (a) Obtained Cambridge English Qualifications score of 160 or above
 (b) Obtained EIKEN Test score of 2,600 or above
 (c) Obtained GTEC score of 1,180 or above
 (d) Obtained IELTS (Academic Module) Overall Band Score of 5.5 or above
 (e) Obtained TEAP score of 309 or above
 (f) Obtained TEAP CBT score of 600 or above
 (g) Obtained TOEFL iBT score of 72 or above
*For all of the above, “scores achieved in exams taken from within two years of the first day of the Application period” will be eligible.

Further information on Application Qualification 1 (c) of the Global Liberal Arts Program:
(1) Those who completed, or expect to complete by March 31, 2024, a twelve-year school education curriculum outside Japan. Or, those who are designated as equivalent to these by the Minister of Education, Culture,Sports, Science and Technology.
(2) Those who completed, or expect to complete by March 31, 2024, a curriculum at an overseas educational institution authorized by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as equivalent to the curriculum of a senior high school in Japan.
(3) Persons who completed on or after a date specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, or expect to complete by March 31, 2024, an advanced curriculum at a vocational school designated separately by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (limited to curricula of three or more years in duration and satisfying other conditions specified by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology).
(4) Those who are designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
(5) Those who passed, or expect to pass by March 31, 2024, the Upper Secondary School Equivalency Examination pursuant to the Regulations on Upper Secondary School Equivalency Examinations(including the former University Entrance Qualification Examination).
(6) Those who entered a university pursuant to the provisions of paragraph 2 of Article 90 of the School Education Act, and judged by Rikkyo University to have the appropriate academic ability to undertake education at university level.
(7) Those who are recognized by Rikkyo University, or expect to be recognized by March 31, 2024, as having academic ability equivalent to a senior high school graduate, and attaining the age of 18 years by March 31, 2024.
*Those who graduated from a school other than “High school based on the Japanese school education system” must take “Eligibility check” before applying.

Selection Procedure

First round: Paper screening based on application documents
Second round: Short essay in English and interview examination
Application documents: Application form, Statement of purpose, Academic report*, certificates
*Senior high school graduates should submit a sealed transcript certified by their school principal. Applicants who have passed the Upper Secondary School Equivalency Examinations (or the former University Entrance Qualification Examination) should submit a certificate of passing grade or certificate of prospective passing grade.

The eligible applicants can submit their application through the admission by designated school recommendation. Applications for the admission to the GLAP cannot be submitted through the general entrance examination or National Center Test for University Admissions.

Academic Fees & Scholarships

Academic Fees

  • Tuition: 1,900,000 yen annually << See More
  • Admission fee: 200,000 yen (charged only in the first year of enrolment)
  • Study abroad costs: No tuition fees to be charged by host institutions
    ※Above information is tentative. Housing and living expenses as well as travel expense must be fully covered by students(about 1,500,000 yen - 2,500,000 yen:The cost of studying abroad is subject to change due to the circumstances of our partner institutions or exchange rate fluctuations.) .
  • Dormitory rent: 54,000 yen per month (For applicants who will stay in the dormitory)

Scholarships

Rikkyo University GLAP Scholarship (awarded prior to enrolment)
  • Annual scholarship amount:1.2 million yen per year
  • Duration of payment:4 years in principle (The annual review is conducted to determine the continuation of payment.)
  • Number of recipients:Very limited

  • The scholarship, awarded prior to enrolment, is provided in the form of a grant to provide financial support purposes. Only students applying for admission in the Fall Round of the Entrance Exam for International Courses (GLAP) are eligible to apply. The scholarship is designed to be awarded to applicants who may be experiencing significant financial hardship. The selection of the recipients is based on a review of each applicant’s household income status. The scholarship application must be submitted at the time of application for the Entrance Exam for International Courses (GLAP).
Rikkyo University Academic Merit Scholarship
<Annual scholarship amount:2 hundred thousand yen per year>

This scholarship is awarded to students who have shown academic excellence, and who show the potential to succeed in university. The award aims to encourage the students to study continuously. (Grant-type scholarship)

The scholarship is awarded to 2 students in each grade (2nd grade or upper).
Rikkyo University Global Scholarship
<Annual grant: 60,000yen or 400,000yen or 200,000yen>

This is need-based scholarship (money for students with a financial need) for study abroad from the second grade. Annual grant depends on your household income.
