To all of the graduates of the Global Liberal Arts Program,
Congratulations on your graduation!!
Normally, I would be meeting you in person, handing you your diplomas and saying “congratulations” to each of you. Sadly, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that will not be possible this year.
I became the Director in the second year of the GLAP program, so I did not have the opportunity to see you all at the entrance ceremony. However, I know what a progressive program the GLAP is, and I can easily imagine the dedicated efforts you have all made that have brought you to this day. You have all worked very hard, and I am truly proud of you.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, your final year of university turned out to be completely different from what you had all imagined. I am sure you have all experienced some sad and difficult times. However, you are the first graduating class of the GLAP program. I am certain that the 21st century liberal arts and leadership education that you have received in the GLAP, and the collaborative skills that you have gained while working with others, will be valuable to you in the future. You will surely face many hardships, and there will be times when things might not go as expected. During those times, I hope that you will remember your four years in the GLAP and go on to live flexible and versatile lives, each in your own way.
Once again, congratulations on your graduation. I wish you all the happiness in the world!!
GLAP Director, Nobuko Ikeda
