Events with Partner InstitutionsSTUDY ABROAD

GLAP has some information sessions and joint classes by having a visit from partner institutions every year. Students deepen/ have deepened their knowledge with having specific and visual images of learning from study abroad (since they entered Rikkyo University).

Augustana College / Joint Course and Information Exchange Meetings

Augustana College is a liberal arts school located in northwestern Illinois, in the United States. It has a strong reputation in the sciences, and students can select academic programs in a broad range of fields. In June 2018, six students and four faculty members from Augustana College visited our university and participated in a joint course, the GLAP freshman compulsory course, “Liberal Arts in Higher Education.” There was a lively exchange of opinions during a group discussion on American higher education, which was stimulating for participants from both schools and enabled them to explore the subject in greater depth.

Also, in a meeting held to exchange information, students were able to share lunch and give presentations on their respective institutions in a relaxed atmosphere. For freshman who have not chosen where they will study abroad, and for sophomores who were about to begin their year abroad this summer, it was an excellent opportunity to hear from local college students first-hand. GLAP takes advantage of visits from representatives of our partner institutions to carry out informational seminars, joint courses, and other events several times a year, allowing students to enhance their learning by providing a clear image as soon as they enter GLAP of what they will study during their time abroad.

Trinity University / Joint Course and Exchange with Student

The Trinity University campus is located in a quiet suburb with easy access to the heart of San Antonio, Texas, in the United States. With its emphasis on small-sized classes, it is ranked the number one regional liberal arts college in the Western United States. Rikkyo offers an intensive summer course taught by a visiting professor from Trinity University.

Also, in June 2017, a group of 15 students and four faculty members from Trinity visited Rikkyo University for a joint lecture that was offered to students from both universities. The lecture focused on Japan's economy and was taught by Mario Gonzalez-Fuentes, an Assistant Professor of Marketing in the Department of Business Administration at Trinity University. The class featured lively debates among the students from the two schools, and there were gatherings at lunchtime that allowed the students to share their thoughts on student life and other issues.

Trinity College / Visit from the President of Trinity College

Founded in 1823, Trinity College is the second oldest liberal arts college in Connecticut, preceded only by Yale University. It is ranked among the top 50 liberal arts schools in the United States. Since signing an exchange partnership agreement with Rikkyo in May 2016, summer intensive courses that are taught by visiting professors from Trinity College have been offered.

Also, in May 2017, the president of Trinity College visited Rikkyo University. Our president, the director of the Center for GLAP, and GLAP faculty members attended the meeting, and they held a lively discussion on international education, liberal arts education, and the initiatives at both institutions in those areas. In addition, an information session was held by the presidents and international exchange students for GLAP students, where there was an enthusiastic Q&A session.
